What is a Duvalay sleeping bag?
This is a question we get asked all the time – so we thought we’d explain what a Duvalay sleeping bag is – and why we think they are an excellent bedding option for campervans, motorhomes and caravans!
In simple terms, Duvalay sleeping bags are made up of 2 covers, stitched together to create 2 pockets – one holds a foam mattress topper, the other holds a duvet. This creates a luxury sleeping bag – but unlike a regular sleeping bag, it is only enclosed on 2 sides, which means people who find a traditional sleeping bag too constrictive, find these so much more comfortable!
2 sleeping bags can also be laid side by side with the option of either having the join between duvet and topper down the middle to have separate sleeping or you can have the join on the outside to create a very cosy double sleeping bag for 2.
There are so many options to choose from – how do I know which Duvalay sleeping bag is right for me?
Options when purchasing
There are a couple of buying options when purchasing your Duvalay Sleeping Bag. You can opt for just the stand alone sleeping bag, or a sleeping bag bundle – but what is the difference we hear you ask?! Let us break it down:
Sleeping bag bundle
This is the complete solution, and includes everything you will need in a great value bundle:
- 1 mattress topper.
- A 4.5 tog summer duvet and a 10.5 tog winter duvet.
- 2 covers – so you always have a spare.
- 2 pillowcases.
- A storage bag.
- 2 straps to make storing and transportation even easier.
Additionally, you can add from a choice of pillows as well.
If you don’t need all the extras included in the bundle, then the standalone sleeping bag will be prefect for you and includes:
- 1 mattress topper
- Either a 4.5 tog summer duvet or a 10.5 tog winter duvet.
- 1 cover.
- 2 straps to make storing and transportation even easier.
Once you’ve decided on either a bundle or a standalone sleeping bag, you have a few options to choose from to tailor it to your exact needs…
Which type of foam should i choose?
Within the Duvalay range there are 3 main types of foam to choose from.
This creates the smallest and most compact sleeping bag when packed. It uses the thinnest memory foam mattress topper at 2.5cm and is ideal for most applications – whether it is for camping, motorhomes or caravans. When rolled up, the overall thickness is 34cm with a summer duvet, or 36cm with a winter duvet, which makes it ideal for packing away in small lockers.
We use the compact sleeping bags in our campervan hire fleet, they always get a mention when our guests leave us reviews – saying how warm and cosy they are! Our campervans have the Titan rock and roll beds fitted, so the Duvalay sleeping bags are easily stored behind the seat during the day. When it is time to make the bed up, it’s a 30 second job to lower the bed, open the zipped bag, and lay out the sleeping bags – easy! The sleeping surface of the Titan rock and roll bed is very smooth, so we find that the 2.5cm compact foam is deep enough.
Comfort memory foam
The comfort range has a thicker memory foam base and is available in 2 thicknesses – 4cm and 5 cm. They are perfect for those who do have the extra storage space or for those who have a lumpy or uncomfortable bed, as they will mould better to any lumps and bumps in your mattress, giving the feeling of a luxurious bed. And when rolled up the overall thickness still comes in at only 36cm with a summer duvet and 38cm with a winter duvet.
If you would like to find out more about the comfort sleeping bag why not check out this video review by Andrew Ditton, who chose one for his own Airstream caravan.
Freshtec cooling foam
The Freshtec is the most technically advanced foam available. It is a great alternative to memory foam as it still offers the great pressure relief that memory foam offers but it also helps to reduce heat for those who are hot in bed. The more open structure of the foam allows 30 times more air flow through the foam, helping to keep you cooler. This again comes in 4cm and 5cm thicknesses.
When rolled up, the overall thickness still comes in at only 38cm with a summer duvet and 40cm with a winter duvet.
What size Duvalay sleeping bag do I need?
There are 3 widths available to suit your bed width, 58cm, 66cm and a 77cm. You might choose to have 2 side by side, so simply combine 2 sleeping bags which will fit your bed. All of the Duvalay sleeping bags are 190cm (6’3”) long so suit most bed sizes….
A choice of duvets
Composed of soft clusters of material all encased in a polycotton cover; this choice of duvet is ideal for everyday comfort.
This microfibre coated duvet is wonderfully soft and light; a sumptuous duvet which provides a superior feel with a wonderful silky touch and finish, making it a more luxurious choice.
